SpeakHire transformed our internship program during the pandemic, matching our newly arrived immigrant students with dedicated mentors who reflect their backgrounds. Through this partnership, students have developed leadership and advocacy skills while gaining the confidence to dream beyond their circumstances.

This course focused on how to be a better leader. We learned skills like reflective communication, partnership, and building a positive workplace. I’ve learned that to be successful in the business world, you need a system for yourself, which helps tremendously with being a successful entrepreneur. I now see myself as a future leader and am considering becoming a small business owner in cosmetology.

What I liked most about this course was learning many things about my career that will help me think about whether it is the right path for me. I learned that we should not demand too much of ourselves to avoid burnout, and that setting achievable goals helps improve the quality of care for patients. I also learned how social networks can be a valuable tool to provide information and help patients feel safer. Most importantly, I realized that a good leader doesn’t act superior but guides and motivates their team toward a common goal. This course was a great help, and I’m grateful for the knowledge I gained.

I loved how everything we did was fun and enjoyable. I learned the importance of teamwork, listening, and stakeholder roles in the arts. I realized that to be a good leader, I also need to be a good listener. Originally, I wanted to pursue singing/acting, but now I’m considering medical fields.

Our students are working directly with professionals and getting mentored by them. They are enjoying the program, receiving rating reviews, and are very deeply connected to the professionals. The program provides a great and unique opportunity for students, especially younger youth starting 9th and 10th grade, and our school plans to continue participating in the future.

Shweta Ratra
Principal, Crotona IHS
I participated in this course to strengthen my leadership skills and get an understanding of what I will do in the future. Something I liked about this course was being able to talk and improve my socializing skills by doing many strategies to also use leadership in our lives. I learned how each company has a burnout prevention and a help center on their company website. Another thing I learned was how each company's burnout rate can really affect peoples thinking about a company. I also learned how to communicate in a group and use everyone's thoughts and answers.. Our facilitator is kind and supporting and helped teach us new things about how jobs include leadership and new vocabulary words that go with it. I learned how to have humility and integrity and use it towards my group members and other people in the future.

I learned so much about leadership, burn-out rates, self-esteem, and determination in the legal field. The facilitator made the lessons fun and engaging, and I now understand qualities like integrity and emotional intelligence that a leader should have. This course has me considering careers like law, medicine, and teaching with a stronger mindset.
