Michael Mallon serves as Deputy Borough President of Queens for External Affairs & Special Initiatives, a role in which he is charged with overseeing the agency's parks and transportation portfolio work; food policy; nonprofit services among other projects.
Mallon joined the Queens Borough President's Office in February 2021 as Director of Intergovernmental Affairs before being elevated to Chief of Staff, a position he held until his appointment as Deputy Borough President. As Chief of Staff, he shepherded a staff of approximately 70 public servants and shaped nearly every aspect of Borough President Richards' first-term agenda.
Prior to joining the Queens Borough President's Office, Mallon served as Communications Director for the New York City Council's Finance Chair. Throughout his career in public service, he has helped thousands of Queens residents navigate challenges ranging from workplace and housing discrimination to immigration concerns and gender-based violence.
A longtime advocate for LGBTQ+ equality, Mallon has organized for the passage of statewide legislation securing workplace protections for transgender and gender nonconforming people, and played a leading role in the effort to curtail the practice of conversion therapy. As a founding member of CUNY's LGBTQI Student Leadership Advisory Council, he has mentored students, hosted roundtable discussions with elected officials, and educated the next generation on the workings of local government. He has also raised tens of thousands of dollars for nonprofit organizations offering a diverse array of services, from HIV prevention services to counseling and other supportive programming for homeless and runaway youth. A committed advocate for public transit, Mallon is a founding member of the Riders Alliance.

“I came from an Egyptian background. When I first came to the US, I faced a lot of bullying. SpeakHire helped me empower who I am and be a leader within my school and community, and be the voice for the unheard.”
